Phuket Digital Nomads

Phuket (pronounced poo-ket) has become a popular destination for Digital Nomads with it’s sandy beaches, good nightlife and exciting tourist attractions, like James Bond Island.

Situated in Southern Thailand, there are now many nomads living in Phuket. While some still prefer Chiang Mai in the north or Bangkok as the capitol, there is no shortage of the online community here.

In this post I’ll cover my favorite coworking space in Phuket as well as where to stay in Phuket.

Are there any coworking spaces in Thailand?

Of course! With remote workers, travelers and online business owners descending on Thailand to enjoy the culture, beach life, and low cost of living it’s inevitable that coworking spaces would pop up as well.

One such place is Hatch Coworking Space Phuket in Old Town Phuket.

These were favorite places to work in Seoul, South Korea

Phuket Coworking Space

I personally spent every working day, except one, at Hatch Coworking Space Phuket. Here were some of my favorite things:

  • Large individual desks so I could spread out and feel like I had my own space
  • A ceiling to floor window wall that looked out onto the pool in the back
  • A seating area in the back to enjoy said pool, do your work or enjoy a break
  • An included drink with my daily fee
  • Staff that were friendly and attentive and always bringing me water
  • Very affordable rates
  • Nice Air Conditioning

The wifi was also very fast and the location (which I’ll get to later) was the best!

It’s not only one of the best coworking spaces in Phuket town, but also one of the best cafes in Phuket. When you first walk in the front of the coworking is simply a cafe where short term guests can be served some of the best coffee in Phuket. The cafe is equally bright but doesn’t quite have the tropical view of the coworking.

Hatch offers half day rates, full day rates and office for rent in Phuket. Regardless of your need – a couple of hours or a full day, if you find yourself needing to do some work in Phuket, Hatch Coworking should be your first stop.

Where to Stay in Phuket

There are actually many areas of Phuket District including Patong, Old Town, Karon, Kata, and Kamala. But I believe the best area to stay in Phuket is Phuket Town.

Besides having access to Hatch Coworking, I absolutely loved my “poshtel” right next door. As a Digital Nomad I’ve chosen to escape the commuter life so being able to walk door to door in less than 2 minutes made this an easy choice.

Now, if you aren’t familiar, a poshtel is a “posh hostel.” They are everywhere in South East Asia and they live up to their name. They are typically very large, clean, have 24/7 staff, include breakfast, have air conditioning in your rooms and are still very cheap.

Mine was Book a Bed Poshtel which is more of a hotel than a hostel.

Here are some other reasons why I loved Book a Bed:

  • Nice good sized Pool to cool off from the heat
  • Within walking distance to major points in the old town
  • Very friendly and helpful staff 24/7
  • Common area to socialize, do some work or just hang out
  • Located right next to a smoothie bowl cafe, Hatch, and Limelight Mall across the street

And if all of this wasn’t reason enough on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights the mall parking lot right outside turns into the Phuket Indy Night Market. Which means 3 days a week I literally never even left my area. I would walk from the hostel to my coworking then across the street to Limelight Mall for yoga and then just step outside to grab dinner before heading to bed.

And can you believe I stumbled onto all of this? It’s true! I didn’t know any of these things were nearby when I booked my hostel but this area had everything I could want at my fingertips. Including a grocery store to grab, a brew pub and pharmacy because of course I had a cold the whole week I was there.

Living in Phuket

While in Phuket, I didn’t have much time to explore the surrounding islands, but I did manage to make it to the beaches.

Just know that taxis will hound you constantly, which is very annoying, but so much is walkable so it’s okay. You will need to rent a scooter or take transportation to move around from each area in Phuket. I tried to take the bus when I could as it’s the most affordable option and how the locals get around.

My best travel tips for any traveler

The cost of living in Phuket is inexpensive although if you are constantly eating out the money will add up. The grocery stores are sufficient and in many hostels/poshtels you have access to a kitchen so I recommend taking advantage of that.

Whatever your reason for visiting or staying you will love Phuket!
